Great results

Im using 5DtoRGB to transcode MTS files from hacked GH2 cameras. Transcoding with this applicaiton is slow even on a fast computer. My baseline for comparison is converting AVCHD footage using Cineforms NeoScene as well as the built-in transcoder in Final Cut Pro X. In my experience both of these transcode faster than 5DtoRGB.

That said, Im extremely pleased with the results. If your workflow requires that you transcode, edit, and deliver results very quickly it may not be the best choice. If you dont have a tight deadline, however, the results are great. However, it feels like the software should be able to work more quickly. Looking at the Activity Monitor on my 8-core Mac Pro it appears that 5DtoRGB is only using a fraction (~25%) of the available processing power at any given time. In contrast, FCP X seems to use much more of the available processing power when transcoding. As a result Im not clear if the difference in speed is due to higher quality transcoding or a need for better optimization of resources.
